Adult Education in the Arts and Design

In the “Adult Education in the Arts and Design” minor, students acquire the basics for an art or design-oriented teaching position in the adult education area. The interdepartmental minor is aimed at BA and MA students from all disciplines.

Programme

Course content.
Would you like to add a further string to your future professional bow by working in adult education? In the “Adult Education in the Arts and Design” minor, students acquire knowledge of adult education, such as theory, (subject-specific) art didactics and current teaching methods. They also learn how to design, carry out and evaluate professional educational offers for and with adults of every age – from young people through to seniors. Moreover, they gain the requisite skills in project management and marketing to be able to work as a freelancer in the arts and culture area. The minor includes participants from Continuing Education as well, so all students gain insights into the professional practice of specialists working in the arts, design and teaching. Please note that the minor is also offered as a CAS degree programme by the ZHdK Continuing Education Centre. 

Skills acquired in the course.
Students learn:
–  about the social conditions of adult education in the arts and design, and are able to position themselves there with their profile 
–  to plan, carry out, evaluate and develop teaching and educational programmes for adults in the arts and design.
–  to design high-quality, well-planned teaching courses and educational programmes that take into account current findings in education, learning psychology, didactics and subject-specific didactics 
–  to communicate educational offers in the arts and design publicly for the target group in question, using management and marketing methods

Admissions requirements.
The “Adult Education in the Arts and Design” minor is aimed at all students at ZHdK who consider extra-curricular education to be a part of their professional focus. They are interested in working in a variety of teaching and educational contexts, and in interdisciplinary exchange with other artistic and design disciplines. 

Language skills required.
You need the following languages to take this minor:
–  English: to be able to follow a discussion
–  English: to actively participate in a verbal exchange
–  English: to understand a text
–  English: to write a text

Benefits of studying this minor.
In the minor, students explore different areas of adult education and work with Continuing Education students. In this way, they receive a comprehensive insight into current and fields of work, and are also able to network with one another. The minor cooperates with other study programmes in the Education area.
