Research

Students have the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the requirements and possibilities of artistic and scientific research; with their theoretical and pragmatic principles, their subject fields and tools, and their respective characteristics, capabilities and contexts.

3rd cycle: PhD

Currently, the Swiss universities of the arts do not have the right to award doctorates themselves. For this reason, ZHdK has entered into PhD cooperation programmes with a number of foreign universities of the arts. The Department of Fine Arts currently runs a joint PhD programme with University of Art and Design Linz. This makes it possible to award doctorates in the fields of art research as well as cultural and media theory.
