Educational objectives.
Graduates have experience in musical-artistic design at a professional level. They are able to play a broad range of music and styles on the organ at an expert level, improvise, and tailor their use of the organ in the church and concert environment to the individual context.
Graduates are able to:
- Perform a broad repertoire of literature from various eras and styles within the context of informed performance practice
- Tailor their organ improvisation and liturgical organ performance to different situations
- Accompany a wide range of instrumental and vocal soloists and choirs
- Undertake church music work in large congregations with confidence and competently lead liturgical celebrations on the organ or the piano as a soloist or as a part of ensembles
- Design performances for a range of event formats on their own and with others, and implement them with originality
- Confidently handle various performance situations in a range of production conditions
- Implement their practical knowledge of conceptual project work in their project and music management according to the situation at hand and expand it themselves without external input
- Tailor their communication in a wide range of social settings to the situation at hand, work with others, resolve conflicts in a constructive manner, demonstrate a willingness to embrace a range of roles
- Look at themselves and their artistic work with a discerning eye, and reflect on their findings

The Majors of the Department of Music offer the biggest variety of instrumental and vocal programmes in Switzerland: conducting, choral conducting, jazz, pop, school music, music technology and composition in different subject areas. The extensive freedom to choose, interdisciplinary teaching formats and self-managed project work in the course allow you to benefit from such diversity and expand your horizons.

On the basis of the individual admissions requirements, the programme aims to develop your artistic, intellectual, explorative and social skills as you progress towards independence and professionalism. The individual support, particular emphasis on a general musical education and the wide range of courses support the continual, dynamic development of your interests for your future professional development.
Prepared to undertake research.
The large number of lecturers in the research institutes guarantees that you will receive research-based tuition, in particular in musicology subjects. Basic research methodology is taught in the course as well, and you will document your general explorative perspective in the form of written and artistic project work. If you are interested and a suitable opportunity arises, active involvement in research projects is also possible.
