Course content
Practical experience sharpens the individual profile of prospective teachers or educators and is thus valuable for starting a career in this field. This is the basis for the Minor “Teaching Projects with Young People. Interdisciplinary Practice Between Arts, Media and Education – Advanced”: Within the framework of the Minor, the participants complete an internship reflecting on their practical experience in the group. The focus of this internship is on teaching “Bildende Kunst” at a Matura school. The internships are organized in tandems or, in exceptional cases, in groups of three, which are composed interdisciplinary whenever possible.
The practical experience is flanked by the in-depth study of current discourse, theories and underlying concepts of Art Education. Students can compile a substantial part of the Minor from open courses offered by ZHdK and thus set their thematic focus according to personal interests and needs. The interweaving of professional practice and theoretical reflection enables discursively accompanied professionalization in the field of art education.
Skills
As in the Minor “Teaching Projects with Young People. Interdisciplinary Practice between Arts, Media and Education – basic”, the experience gained in the Advanced-Minor aims to build up and deepen practical professional skills. Disciplinary art teaching and education strategies are complemented by interdisciplinary perspectives and expanded into digital spaces. Upon completing the Minor, the students have, among other things, the competence to:
- reflect on, analyse and further develop discipline-specific and interdisciplinary teaching strategies with regard to their educational potential,
- plan, implement and evaluate aesthetic-cultural educational processes in the context of teaching upper secondary visual arts,
- appropriately consider individual learner needs and institutional settings when designing educational or classroom settings,
- incorporate interdisciplinary and collaborative strategies when designing instructional settings,
- work on subject-related didactic questions in depth, theory-based and based on the experience gained during their teaching internship and
- justify, reflect on and further develop their teaching practice as well as their personal professional self-image as educators against the background of (subject-)didactic and cultural-theoretical practices, theories and discourses.
