Sabine Harbeke, Dr. Jörg Scheller, Dr. Dagmar Reichert and Florence Balthasar have designed a module for ZHdK students who are interested in international cooperation in arts and design and/or developing and implementing international and intercultural projects. This module took place from 15 –19 February 2021 as part of the Z-modules.
One part of this module was developed together with CERN IdeaSquare, included a virtual visit to CERN. CERN IdeaSquare aims to foster closer interaction between science and society, which is why it offers, among other things, programmes for students of all disciplines – including arts and design. After an introduction to CERN and the mechanisms of scientific collaboration, an initial animated discussion panel took place with the students.
In an experimental workshop entitled “Innovation in motion”, the students were taught how to engage with the unknown using a combination of innovative methods and physical exploration, as this is a key skill when dealing with large international organizations. The students also familiarized themselves with the connection fostered between the arts and science by the CERN Arts Programme.
