DIZH Projects

The mission of Digitalization Initiative of the Zurich Higher Education Institutions (DIZH) is to promote cooperation on digitalization issues between
higher education institutions in Zurich, thereby strengthening the greater Zurich area as a hub for research and business. The University of Zurich, Zurich University of Applied Sciences, Zurich University of the Arts  and Zurich University of Teacher Education are part of the DIZH network, which aims to advance research, innovation and education in the realm of digitalization by using interdisciplinary approaches. Further information on the activities of the ZHdK within the DIZH can be found here. The researchers of the Department of Design are involved in the following projects.

PhD

With the support and guidance of DDE professors and lecturers, it is possible to supervise dissertation projects in collaboration with universities in Switzerland and abroad. A connection to the research topics at the Department of Design is a prerequisite for doctoral supervision. The Department of Design also participates in the Transdisciplinary Artistic PhD Programme with the University of Linz, with a doctoral group focusing on "Entangled Environments".

(Junior) Research in Design Programme

Since 2015, the Institute for Design Research has advertised the (Junior) Research in Design programme with an annual call for proposals. The aim is to offer graduates, academic staff and teachers at the Department of Design start-up funding to develop a third-party funded project, organize conferences, event series and exhibitions, or write and publish academic articles. The R&D Council decides on the selection of projects and the allocation of funds.

Publications

As part of research work, knowledge transfer addresses both the research community and interested members of the public by making relevant social issues accessible in appropriate formats. The findings are published as scientific or creative output and reflect the diverse thematic, methodological and innovative approaches of design research.
