The study „Creating Spaces: Non-Formal Art/s Education and vocational training for artists in Africa between Cultural Policies and Cultural Funding” has been realized by the IAE on behalf of Goethe Institute Johannesburg, South Africa. It is authored by Nicola Lauré al-Samarai and contains articles by Rangoato Hlasane and Malose Malahlela, Judith Reker and Fouad Asfour.
Nicola Lauré al-Samarai is a historian and cultural theorist working as writer and editor in Berlin, Germany. Fouad Asfour is a linguist and works as freelance writer and editor in Johannesburg, South Africa. Judith Reker is a journalist focused on the African continent. She lives in South Africa. Rangoato Hlasane is a cultural worker and educator interested in visual and other histories who lives and works in Johannesburg, South Africa. Malose Malahlela is an organizer and artist interested in art processes across media and is based in Johannesburg, South Africa.
The printed version of the publication was launched on June, 28th 2014 at Goethe Institut Dakar during the Symposium „Condition Report“ of the Raw Material Company. The French and English translations have been published as part of the series „Contact Zones Nairobi“, edited by Tom Odhiambo and Nina Wichmann.
