The Pinyin Festival took place between November 28th and December 10th, 2016, and was initiated by music curator Brandon Farnsworth. The goal of the festival was to further strengthen ties between various artists and organizers already working in the young Hong Kong experimental music/sound art/media art scene. At the centre of the project was the Kollektiv Totem, a Zurich-based music theater collective, two of whose members were part of the Zurich University of the Arts Transcultural Collaboration program this past fall. The festival was an opportunity (placed after their program officially ended) to “put to use” many of the connections they had made over the course of their 3-month stay in the city with the program.
