The starting point for this research was the term โmauvaise herbeโ (bad seed/weed in French). I wondered what it really meant. Are plants โbadโ when they are not โusefulโ and cannot be controlled? In a sense, categorising โbadโ plants is an illustration of our tendency to perceive and treat nature as a commodity to be controlled. When it comes to exposing invisible structures, I see strong similarities between the categorising of the taxonomy of plants (invasive, decorative, useful), the system of labour (career) and the hierarchy of creative practices (crafts and art). My interest in industrial materials is based on their physical qualities and aesthetic values but also on the associations they carry within them, which speak to me of urbanisation, ephemeral architectures and physical work. In my work, I attempt to assemble immaterial and material layers, desires and projections which are interwoven within the physical components I use.
