Live-drawing in times of social and physical distancing
This online excursion leads to fellow human beings. A person is โvisitedโ with an online camera while the course participants join the session online. They draw live images conveyed to them from their screens.
This situation deliberately contrasts an on-site drawing session in many ways. The possibility of being very close to the observed personโs body is one example. A small online cam goes places a group of people in a regular life drawing class can never go. Also, the teacher decides on what is seen in the frame, therefore, the participants have to work with a given picture composition. Individual points of view on the model do not exist. A set of new questions arise in this setting. These shall be dealt with by drawing and reflecting the experience in a discussion.
Examples of issues at hand:
โ How do works done from a screen differ from works done in a space?
โ Does a given picture composition teach me anything about composition?
โ Does a screen, a projection or a spatial situation result in different pictures?
โ How does drawing alone, in front of a screen, influence my work in comparison to work done in a group?
โ What can be said about the responsibility of the person filming?
โ How does visual closeness and digital distance or Intimacy in virtual reality influence us and our own body image?
The project consists of three challenges:
โ Drawing and painting of give life images, alone, in front of a screen
โ Reflecting on ways of depicting physically and socially distanced fellow human beings
โ Sharing and discussing the work online
