The seminar focuses on the technical, aesthetic and ethical aspects of the presentation of various skin types. By illuminating and observing the nuances of colour and contrast, the actual seeing of light is trained. The knowledge and exchange of expertise is not only important for film, but also for the Fine Arts, scenography or production design and the virtual lighting of game design.
Methods:
Artistic and creative exploration;
Reflection on the own work, tools and communication channels;
Understanding the contexts and work biographies of the lecturers;
Own experimentation, contextualisation and intercultural exchange.
Objective:
All human skin colours shall be filmed in their full expression, their beauty and with the same sovereignty and technical know-how. Greater sensitivity and broader knowledge provide more confidence in lighting design and exposure. This knowledge should be transferred to the various disciplines at ZHdK through the seminar.
Conclusion:
Light behaves differently by being reflected onto divergent surfaces. Depending on the material and angle, it spreads unevenly and creates varying effects. Skin tones behave differently and must therefore be assessed and illuminated with adapted lighting concepts.
