With David Wengrow, Co-author of ‘The Dawn of Everything’
On 03 April 2025, the International Dossier of Zurich’s University of the Arts (ZHdK) and the Zentrum Künste und Kulturtheorie (ZKK) will jointly host ZHdK’s International Day.
For this year’s event, we will welcome Professor David Wengrow, archaeologist and co-author of the international bestseller The Dawn of Everything: A New History of Humanity, whose work has challenged commonly reproduced standard versions of human history as well as our historical understanding of human social freedoms.
In conversation with Anselm Franke, Professor of Curatorial Studies (ZHdK), and Judith Siegmund, Professor of Philosophical Aesthetics (ZHdK), Wengrow will be discussing how to escape from the contemporary traps of our political imaginary and ‘to change the course of human history - at least the part that has already happened’. They will be joined by artist and video essayist Ursula Biemann, whose upcoming work takes its cue from Graeber and Wengrow’s discussion of the historical significance of the ‘indigenous critique’ of European societies, as well as ZHdK students in Curatorial Studies.
