Programme
«The notion of directing a film is the invention of critics. The images themselves are not sufficient. What’s essential is the duration of each image and that which follows each image: the whole eloquence of cinema is achieved in the editing room.» – Orson Welles
Film editors make artistic and creative decisions and must wrestle with every picture and sound. They are responsible for the storytelling and serve all departments as argumentative counterparts with regard to content, dramaturgy, politics and production.
Students doing a Master’s in Film Editing at Zurich University of the Arts deepen their knowledge of editing and are qualified to work as film editors in film and TV productions and in various other audiovisual domains.
Major-Minor Programme Model
At ZHdK, students choose a Major. In addition to this core subject, they can choose one or two Minors to deepen or expand their major skills and knowledge across various disciplines. This wide choice of courses is unique in Europe and enables students to develop and sharpen their individual profile.
