Programme
The Institute for the Performing Arts and Film (IPF) at Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK) currently collaborates with four reknown art universities:
— University of Music and Performing Arts Graz (Theater): Dr. artium Programme
— KONRAD WOLF Film University of Babelsberg (Film: Screenwriting/Dramaturgy, Film and Television Production and Film Heritage): Scientific/Artistic PhD Programme
— University of Arts Linz (Transdisciplinarity, Performance, Dance, Theater, Film)
— Stockholm University of the Arts (Choreography, Performing Arts, Film and Media)
Since ZHdK is not entitled doctoral degrees in its own right, doctoral degrees/PhDs are awarded by a partner university. Our partner universities enable ZHdK doctoral candidates to earn a scientific-artistic or an artistic doctorate. Research activities, supervision and events take place partly in Zurich but mostly at the respective partner university.
Every year, we are seeking up to 6 emerging researchers from the fields of film, dance, theatre, performance and transdisciplinary arts whose work involves performative and/or cinematic processes. Candidates must hold a Master’s degree (or equivalent) in an artistic or art-theoretical discipline and profound artistic practice spanning several years. Residence in Switzerland is not required, but participants must be willing to take part in activities in Zurich and at the partner university. A strong interest in transdisciplinary peer-to-peer-exchange, also with other artistic fields in the context of ZHdK’s research community is required.
Candidates who wish to pursue doctoral studies in association with Graz University of the Arts must be willing to attend courses and lectures on-site. They must possess a knowledge of German (B2), or be willing to acquire such knowledge in the mid-term.
