"making space, finding form"
This year’s Degree Show departs from a consideration of artistic form-finding "committed to cultivating and reclaiming knowledge, relationships, and imagination” (Free Home University). Working with the graduating students we encountered different approaches to free artistic research, which manifests not only in completed artworks, but also processually, in fragmented and idiosyncratic ideas, concepts, conversations, and the written word.
Discussing different methodologies regarding a “work on forms” and artistic states of production the students’ works reflect on different tools of research, forms of investigation and various interactions with worldliness. The exhibition itself is also an inquiry into how far artistic production, even in its provisional, incomplete form, goes hand in hand with (re)presenting, theorizing, writing, and archiving: Thinking artistic practices as embedded in a material network of production, distribution, information and reflection allowed the students to address their urgent questions in a collective process of art-making.
Framing the collective effort is a publication developed and produced by a group of students reflecting on the topic of “Love”, which will be distributed in the exhibition and presented with a series of readings on June 8th.
The exhibition is curated by Ann-Kathrin Eickhoff and Elisa R. Linn.
