Zurich Dance Academy

Education

The Zurich Dance Academy offers a professional education in classical ballet for students aged 11 to 19.  The foundation study programme for children and adolescents runs for 3 years alongside the compulsory school education. The bilingual advanced study programme is a 4-year full-time course that culminates in the granting of the “Stage Dancer EFZ” – Federal Certificate of Proficiency in Classical Dance.

Starting from the 2025/26 academic year, it will be possible to complete the Berufsmatur 1 ARTE / vocational baccalaureate alongside the advanced study programme. The Berufsmatur 1 (BM1) / vocational baccalaureate is pursued on a part-time basis throughout the entire four-year professional training at taZ. Berufsmatur classes are conducted exclusively in German and take place on two afternoons each week (Wednesdays and Fridays) at the Berufsmaturitätsschule Zürich (BMZ).

With our internationally renowned faculty, boarding house and health team, we are able to offer a complete education in a supportive and holistic environment. Our institution is widely known for its outstanding ballet education and is a sought-after destination for students from Switzerland, Europe and abroad.  Our graduates are to be found in dance companies all over the world and there is a close collaboration with the Ballet Zurich.

We are a partner school of the well-known dance and ballet competitions Prix de Lausanne and Youth America Grand Prix. Established in 2005, Zurich Dance Academy is part of the Department of Performing Arts and Film at Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK).
