Since 2003, the artists-in-labs program has been facilitating artistic research by way of long-term residencies for artists in scientific laboratories and research institutes. It is part of the Department of Cultural Analysis (DKV) and promotes sustainable collaboration between artists and scientists of all disciplines, not just in Switzerland but all around the world. These long-term interdisciplinary and cross-border collaborations provide artists with an opportunity to critically engage with the sciences and their experimental and aesthetic dimensions.
The artists-in-labs program considers the worldwide interest on Art and Science as a specific curatorial and cultural practice. By means of exhibitions, conferences, workshops and books we intend to engage the public with this practice .
The long-term Swiss residencies for artists in science labs are intended to deepen findings, approaches and problems and to create the necessary space for joint work and mutual exchange.
