When Sunlay Rodriguez went back home to Havana after completing a Master’s degree in Transdisciplinary Studies at ZHdK in 2015, she asked herself – and me (Kaspar König) – how she could put everything she had learned into practice. How can she combine her transdisciplinary artistic practice with her skills as a networker and maintain and build on her connection with the German-speaking part of Europe?
Our aim in setting up the Tic & Tac association is to establish a transdisciplinary network that will forge links between Swiss, Cuban and European artists and a (transatlantic) audience and patrons. We are keen to promote interest in transcultural practice and develop new transdisciplinary formats. Our primary focus is not on a purely artistic exchange, but on encouraging personal interaction based on art and artists’ own work with all kinds of different disciplines brought in by those involved.
Sunlay Rodriguez will take on the role of intermediary between artists and the local community in Havana and European guests. The Artspace will serve as a venue for dialogue and interaction, as well as functioning as a first port of call for new project participants. The network, which is already in place to some extent, will be expanded to include more initiatives and artists.
The work of Sunlay Almeida Rodriguez and Kaspar König is a key factor in raising the profile of the Artspace.
