An event hosted by Digital-Shift in cooperation with the Zurich Centre for Creative Economies (ZCCE)
Web3 (Web 3.0) projects are proliferating, quite simply because it is the latest fad. Web3, as the third generation of web technologies, will strongly emphasize decentralized applications and make extensive use of blockchain-based technologies. Web3 will also deploy machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI) to help empower more intelligent and adaptive applications. The emerging definition of Web3 also involves the notion of a semantic web.
Many such projects could be carried out with tried and tested, standard technology (e.g., regular databases). Many, moreover, do not create significant value. This is one of the reasons for the current crypto winter, which is separating the wheat from the chaff. Our event on 1 February 2023 will explore the truly native capabilities of Web3. Do they create value? Will they shift the value chains of the future? Because the question of digital ownership and Web3 impact creators’ entrepreneurial strategies, ZCCE is happy to cooperate with Digital-Shift for this discussion.
Marc Van Nuffel, CEO and Founder of DU DA, and Eva Pauline Bossow, Head of Transfer ZCCE and a Member of ZHdK’s Digital Council, will give a brief introduction and moderate the session. Our first speaker is Matthias Weissl, CEO and Co-Founder of Verum Capital, who will discuss what is truly native about blockchain technology. Matthias will explain how native blockchain functionality creates value and will illustrate his comments with use cases. Our second speaker is Beat Walther, Owner and Managing Director of Vendbridge. Beat will examine whether and how Web3 creates value. Does it really make a tenfold difference? Considering possible disruptions in value chains, he will also look at whether Web3 is really as powerful as assumed.
The subsequent panel discussion will enable the audience to offer comments and raise questions. The discussion will also involve Hongyang Wang, project leader of “No1s1”, a project of the Digitalization Initiative of the Zurich Higher Education Institutions (DIZH). “No1s1” aims to promote decentralized autonomous organizations (DAOs) and to support practitioners in designing and implementing DAOs. For the first time, a DAO owning physical (and not only digital) assets is being studied. For this purpose, project members are building the No1s1 prototype – a physical space that owns and manages itself via an open and distributed platform.
