Programme

Course content.
In this minor, you take part in collaborative projects offered by the department – or you apply with your own project idea, the core idea of which is collaboration. Styles and formats are basically free, but integration into the possibilities of the department must be guaranteed. You will work on the project in intensive rehearsals, mentoring sessions and regular lessons. The results lead to independent presentations or to participation in ZHdK projects, in concerts by ZHdK partners or in Open Chamber Music Sessions.
The minor in German and English is offered by the profile Interpretation & Performance. It is aimed at the Bachelor’s and Master’s degree levels.
In 2025 you can choose between three different profiles within the minor: 1. individual project, 2. chamber music, 3. contemporary ensemble.

Skills acquired in the course.

Benefits of studying at ZHdK.
Studying at an integrated university of the arts offers numerous opportunities for musical cooperation. The faculty of ZHdK has excellent and experienced personalities in the areas of orchestral conducting, accompaniment, role study and chamber music. Regular supervision and many opportunities to make music together with the faculty create an environment that can also be understood as collaborative in itself. The high calibre of the numerous fellow students in a wide range of instrumental and vocal majors provides ideal, sustainable networking opportunities.

Time structure.
The Minor in Collaborative Music Practice uses different time structures depending on the profile.
—  Project: The project follows its own logic and is not bound to general time structures.
—  Chamber music: Chamber music lessons take place continuously during the semester, depending on repertoire development and objectives. During the minor weeks, there are also masterclasses, open chamber music sessions with lecturers and recital evenings.
—  Contemporary ensemble: All three ensembles of the minor (Ensemble for New Music, Improvisation Ensemble and Studio Ensemble) work during the semester in coordination with the majors Contemporary Music and Composition for Film, Theatre and Media. The Ensemble for New Music and the Improvisation Ensemble also meet during the block weeks of the minor to present themselves to the public.
