Art Education

Prospective teachers, art and cultural mediators acquire artistic and pedagogical skills for target group-specific mediation with the Bachelor's degree. At Master's level, these are further developed with reference to their own practice and current social challenges.

Bachelor

The Bachelor of Arts in Art Education prepares students to teach in schools, cultural institutions or social institutions. One of the focal areas of the three-year course is artistic and design practice. The study of cultural, educational and social issues is just as important as learning material, media and craft techniques.

Master

The Master's in Art Education offers a place where artistic-educational expertise is developed, tested and expanded based on the principles, concepts and practices of art education and aesthetic-cultural education in relation to social conditions. The aim is to examine and further develop one's own professional practice through research. Student-centred settings promote a positioned professional perspective that knows how to deal with current challenges in the fields of practice as well as with the historical development of the subject.

Major-Minor Programme Model

At ZHdK, students choose a Major. In addition to this core subject, they can choose one or two Minors to deepen or expand their major skills and knowledge across various disciplines. This wide choice of courses is unique in Europe and enables students to develop and sharpen their individual profile.
