Composition for Film, Theatre and Media
The programme «Composition for Film, Theatre and Media» enjoys something of a unique position at Zurich University of the Arts, enabling students to enjoy highly practical and interdisciplinary training with a wide variety of profiles relating to «functional music».
General information
The programme aims to combine a number of things: artistic ambition, a solid and diverse skill set, and working on one’s own profile as a composer on the one hand, with the functionality of composition and a focus on its applications and marketability on the other. Other objectives of the programme include establishing connections with linear and interactive media as well as how to handle the peculiarities of the culture scene and the entertainment industry. Working in a complex team, encountering other disciplines involving art and design, and working with state-of-the-art technology: these are not just simulated, but can be incorporated into projects in a way which also reflects the reality of the work done by professionals at the highest level. Composers, conductors and musicians all come together within a single institution, along with actors, scenographers, game designers and film directors.
The programme «Composition for Film, Theatre and Media» offers comprehensive training at all levels of higher education – from PreCollege, Bachelor’s (BA) and Master’s (MA) level through to continuing education options (CAS, DAS, MAS) or even doctoral programmes (collaborative PhD arrangements are offered in cooperation with international universities of the arts).
“Composition for Film, Theatre and Media” at the University of the Arts Zurich is committed to the International Media Music & Sound Arts Network in Education (IMMSANE).
