Kultursatelliten (culture satellites): Culture Satellites: A modular continuing education programme to strengthen cultural education
The modular continuing education programme Kultusatelliten combines practical and theoretical knowledge on cultural education in the school context. It strengthens the qualifications, self-image and skills of cultural educators.
Participants acquire methodological knowledge and locate their own work in a broader context. They reflect on their role as cultural educators between school, culture and society and further develop their own artistic approach. The qualification strengthens their teaching skills and sensitises them to the teaching work in the ‘operating system’ of school.
Module overview:
Toolkit (Summer School ZHdK, 4-6 September 2025)
This module focuses on the conditions for successful cultural education work in schools, self- and project management, best practice examples, and collaboration with various stakeholders.
Study trip to Vienna (5-7 November 2025)
The three-day study trip to Vienna offers an international perspective, provides insights into best practice models, enables exchange with various local actors and facilitates networking among participants.
Inside-out (HKB Winter School 2026)
The module addresses current issues in cultural education in schools. Inputs and best practice examples enable a methodical examination of questions that require a stance to be taken.
Network event (as part of the HKB Winter School 2026)
The network event summarises the experiences of the cultural satellites and asks about the future practice of cultural mediation and continuing education in Switzerland.
The modules can be combined or attended independently of each other.
The Kultursatelliten continuing education programme is a collaboration between the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK), the Bern University of the Arts (HKB) and the Bern University of Teacher Education (PH Bern). The cultural education departments of the cantons of Aargau (Kultur macht Schule), Bern (Fachbereich Kulturvermittlung), Zurich (Schule+Kultur) and the Kulturvermitttlung der Abteilung Basel-Stadt are acting as partners in the field. Thanks to the support of the Mercator Foundation Switzerland, the pilot programme can be offered at a reduced cost.
